The Problem
Mobile money is the lifeline of East Africa. Millions of people use M-Pesa, Airtel Money, and bank USSD services daily — but few realize how much they're spending on transaction fees alone. These fees are buried in SMS confirmations, and over a month they add up to a significant amount. There's no easy way to see the big picture of what you're actually paying to move your own money around.
How It Works
SMS Parsing
Thamani reads your financial SMS messages (M-Pesa, Airtel Money, bank notifications) using on-device SMS permissions. It extracts transaction amounts, fees, and provider details using pattern matching — no data ever leaves your phone.
Fee Breakdown
Each transaction is broken down into the actual amount sent/received and the fee charged. You see the exact percentage each provider takes, making it easy to compare costs across M-Pesa, Airtel Money, and bank transfers.
Analytics Dashboard
Monthly and weekly summaries show your total fees, average fee percentage, and which provider costs you the most. Visualizations help you spot trends and make smarter decisions about which service to use for different transaction types.
Privacy First
Zero cloud sync, zero tracking, zero third-party services. Everything is stored locally on your device using Room database. Your financial data stays yours — always.
