Ol Pejeta

Reimagining the Ol Pejeta Conservancy experience as a mobile app.

A concept app for Ol Pejeta Conservancy — one of East Africa's most iconic wildlife sanctuaries and home to the last two northern white rhinos on Earth. This design explores what a modern, immersive visitor companion could look like: from discovering accommodation and dining options to booking activities, playing wildlife games, and navigating the conservancy with an interactive map. Built with Kotlin Multiplatform for shared logic across Android and iOS, with Compose Multiplatform UI and platform-native experiences on each side.

The Idea

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a world-class wildlife sanctuary in Laikipia, Kenya — home to the Big Five, endangered species programs, and unforgettable safari experiences. But the digital visitor experience hasn't kept up with the magic of the place itself. This concept reimagines what a dedicated mobile companion could do: help visitors plan their trip, discover what's available, navigate the park, and even learn about wildlife through interactive games — all in one beautifully crafted app.

App Flow

01

Onboarding & Intro

A visually rich intro sequence that sets the tone — sweeping wildlife imagery, the conservancy's mission, and a quick setup to personalize the experience based on visit type (day trip, overnight stay, returning visitor).

02

Homepage

A dynamic landing screen with featured activities, weather conditions, wildlife sighting highlights, and quick-access cards for accommodation, dining, and bookings. Designed to feel alive and current.

03

Accommodation

Browse lodges, camps, and tented suites with photo galleries, pricing, amenities, and availability. Filter by budget, group size, or experience type — from luxury tented camps to rustic bush stays.

04

Where to Eat

Discover on-site restaurants, bush dining experiences, and picnic spots. Each listing includes menus, dietary options, operating hours, and the ability to reserve a table or request a packed lunch for game drives.

05

Activities

Explore game drives, guided walks, lion tracking, rhino monitoring, chimpanzee sanctuary visits, and night drives. Each activity has descriptions, duration, difficulty level, and real-time availability.

06

Booking & Tickets

A streamlined booking flow for activities and park entry. Select dates, group size, and add-ons. Secure payment with M-Pesa and card options. Digital tickets with QR codes — no printing needed.

07

Wildlife Games

Interactive mini-games that teach visitors about Ol Pejeta's animals — species identification quizzes, conservation trivia, and a "spot the animal" AR camera mode. Fun for families and educational for all ages.

08

Interactive Map

A detailed, offline-capable map of the conservancy with trails, water points, viewing spots, and real-time animal sighting pins from rangers. GPS tracking shows your position and suggests nearby points of interest.

Design Decisions

Immersive imagery

Full-bleed wildlife photography throughout. The UI recedes to let the conservancy's beauty speak — large hero images, edge-to-edge cards, and minimal chrome.

Offline-first

Safari lodges have spotty connectivity. The map, booked tickets, and key content are all cached locally so the app works deep in the bush.

Warm palette

Earth tones — savanna gold, acacia green, sunset amber — grounded in a dark base. The color language reflects the landscape visitors are immersed in.
