Stay
Wildebeest Eco Camp
Nairobi, Kenya
Somewhere between backpackers' hostel and boutique lodge, and it works. The garden bar is the beating heart — fairy lights strung between trees, a fire pit that gets lit every evening, and travellers from every continent sharing stories over Tuskers.
Rooms range from dorms to private cottages. The cottages are worth the upgrade — small but clean, with actual doors and hot water that's reliably hot. The dorms are standard but well-maintained.
It's in a quiet Nairobi suburb so you need a taxi to get anywhere, but that's part of the appeal — you're away from the noise. The breakfast buffet is surprisingly solid: eggs made to order, fresh fruit, good coffee.
The Wi-Fi actually works, which in Nairobi backpackers is worth at least an extra star.
